In the Pan

Steak Diane right before seving.

Are you looking for a romantic dinner for two? In our monthly Joie De Vivre  Meal of the month we have just that. So, BAM- Lets take it up a notch!
In the mid twentieth century it became exceedingly popular to “flambe’ dishes tableside. No one is sure where Steak Diane came from. It was first documented in 1940 in Australia. Others say, it may have been invented in Belgium, London, or New York.

I cannot think of a better choice of the entre for our first meal of the month than Steak Diane. Nor is there a more fitting recipe to use than Emeril Lagasse’s from his Delmonico Restaurant. The only deviation from this recipe was instead of veal demiglace, I used beef bouillon. Click here for recipe.

Sliced Tomato Salad

Sliced tomato salad with blue cheese, olives and anchovies.

Next, for the side I went with my steak house go to, Creamed Spinach. The Creamed spinach recipe we used was the one used by Ruth’s Chris. I also decided to take this up a notch by topping it with sharp cheddar cheese. Basically, what I had was Creamed Spinach Au Gratin. Make sure you use the nutmeg. Click here for recipe.

For the salad, I chose sliced Beef Steak tomatoes sprinkled with a balsamic vinaigrette. I topped the tomatoes with anchovies, crumpled blue cheese and mixed olives.

The wine was a Kirkland Alexander Valley 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon.
With the addition of a crusty French bread, it was complete.
This was an easy meal to prepare. Tasty with a show.
I hope you enjoy it and as Julia says, Bon Appetit.
